OCTOBER 2014 FIRST FRIDAY - CHRISTINE BREITNAUER

Christine Breitnauer is primarily a self-taught artist who works in pastel, oil, charcoal and graphite.  She has drawn and painted on and off throughout the past two decades and has recently become a member of the Arvada Fine Arts Guild.  She won the Mirriam Ritter Award in her first show with the Guild and has won two Peer Review contests twice.

Although Christine loves painting animals and especially horses, she has recently become more interested in landscapes and portraiture.  Her pastels, especially, reflect the influence of artists such as Julianne Miller and Bruce Gomez, from whom she has taken workshops.  She feels a new world has opened up to her because of being taught to see beyond the "usual."

SEPTEMBER 2014 FIRST FRIDAY - LARRY ROUTTEN

Larry been creating pastel paintings for almost ten years now. He enjoys capturing the essence of scenes he sees during his life and travels. Looking at the world as a potential painting has led him to see things in a vastly different manner than he used to see them as a scientist. Trying to capture that view on paper for other people to share is what drives his creativity.

Larry is a member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and the Arvada Fine Arts Guild. He is primarily self- taught, although he has studied with several well- known pastel artists, including Doug Dawson, Tony Ortega, Alan Flatmann and Kathy Beekman.

Larry has won awards in several exhibits sponsored by the Arvada Fine Arts Guild and had a painting selected for use as the Montrose Wine Festival poster. He has exhibited paintings at galleries in Denver and Georgetown. He presently lives in Golden.

AUGUST 2014 FIRST FRIDAY - MICKEY LA FAVE

Mickey grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Inspired by local artist and mentor, John Gustafson, her love and passion for all things beautiful and artistic led her to Central Michigan University to study art. Not unlike so many aspiring artists, the necessity of a steady paycheck redirected Mickey's career...temporarily.

A move to Colorado in 1982 was a dream come true with Mickey eventually settling into a historic home in The Highlands Neighborhood of North Denver. Re-discovery of her passion for painting inspired Mickey to begin studying and painting with watercolorist Janet Nunn.

Mickey's work has been on display at various galleries and businesses throughout the Denver area. She also shows her work at various art shows around the country.

Mickey's unique style playfully employs the use of vivid colors and stark contrasts to accentuate subjects with incredible warmth, depth and detail.
