SEPTEMBER 2013 FIRST FRIDAY - RANDY HALE

As a watercolorist, Randy Hale’s paintings strike an emotional chord connecting us to our past. The artist is a native of Colorado and grew up outside Denver where his family raised horses. The work ethic of western ranch life speaks to him, and his paintings reflect our Western Heritage.

Armed with a BFA in Studio Design and a graduate degree in Business, Randy went on to attend Art Center College of Design in Pasadena where he honed his craft as a product designer. In 2002 Randy resumed fine art painting. The intervening years have brought a lot of enjoyment to Randy and he’s realized tremendous success as a watercolorist!

Randy has been an active member of the Colorado Watercolor Society over the past decade, serving in a number of capacities on its board of directors, most recently as President.  He’s also a member of the National Watercolor Society, and has served as Colorado’s delegate for the Western Federated Watercolor Societies.  His paintings are jurored into exhibitions on a regular basis and hang in private and corporate collections world-wide. He is represented by galleries in Prescott, Arizona  -  Denver, Colorado  -   and St. Maarten (Dutch West Indies).

AUGUST 2013 FIRST FRIDAY - ANDREA FAST

Viewing the everyday world through filters that strip away the dull nuances in favor of the bold and dramatic, Andrea paints a world more  colorful and visceral than the one where we spend most of our days.  Come and take a peek into this refreshing world, and take away from it a new perspective on the world we live in.

JUNE 2013 FIRST FRIDAY- JESSICA FORRESTAL

I am a working artist in Denver, Colorado.  Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, I moved to Colorado in 2001. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 2005 and I am currently working towards an MA in Art and Design at the University of Northern Colorado.  My work is primarily abstract.  I enjoy pushing boundaries and keeping my artistic options open.  Currently, I am painting with discarded objects and exploring compositional aspects of mixed media.  I aspire to create work that stimulates the senses.  Composition draws the viewer in and invites personal interpretation.

As an emerging artist, I exhibit my work in many venues in the Denver area.  Two solo exhibitions are planned for 2013 in the Tennyson Street District as well as the Santa Fe Drive Art District.

APRIL 2013 FEATURED ARTIST ACHILLES MARCUS GONZALEZ

Achilles Marcus began studying technical photography when he was awarded a summer grant program scholarship in 1998 at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. A year later he attended the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver for four quarters and in 2001 ended up in the Pacific Northwest where he attended the Art Institute of Seattle. His education serves as a strong technical foundation, but still thrives on creating images that have that potential to be cinematic or somewhat illustrative. Achilles still uses manual model cameras capturing images on film, as well as digital cameras and edits through digital software in order to utilize imaginative and creative concepts. Occasionally, Achilles like to get back into the traditional wet/darkroom depending on the aesthetics and output. Essentially, his approach is to push for originality, intuitively design through composition and allow his camera to work as a sketchbook in order to convey a dynamic perspective.

Achilles Marcus resides in Seattle and is currently working as an assistant in commercial photography and also freelances in a variety of visual medias. He also creates fine art photography for showings, installations and commissions. Achilles also photographs local bands-live performances and has contributed as a fashion/editorial photographer for Sound Magazine-which is now City Arts Magazine in Seattle.
